Individual Counseling

I begin therapy by building a strong relationship with my clients. It is my goal that you feel safe and cared for when we are together, and I do my best to step into your experience with you and feel what you are feeling. Clients find me nurturing and have confidence that I am helping them reach their goals. Whether you feel like you've lost yourself, have deep pain you want to stop avoiding, need an objective voice in your life, or just a safe space to say anything, I can help. Most goals for change involve being challenged in new ways. I help clients shift to being curious about their situations and view them from a variety of perspectives as they reconsider beliefs and patterns that have limited them.

Somatic Therapy

Feet hurting?  Maybe they don't like the direction you're headed.

Can't get rid of the weight?  What are you holding on to?

Feeling tension build in the same spot?  How is it trying to protect you?

Have you ever heard that your body keeps the score?  You may have forgotten the moments that contribute to your challenges, but your body hasn't.  Can you appreciate that your body is speaking to you? I believe our spirits, minds, and bodies were designed to cooperate in healing from difficult experiences. I can help you become aware of this connection as I invite you to give attention to somatic clues that provide insight and can help you understand and overcome your struggles. Different than traditional talk therapy, somatic therapy is another door to go in to get to the root of the problem. Somatic work is an experiential journey where you become the observer of your own unconscious material. It is a discovery, of sorts. A discovery of self; a discovery of the human design. I use a variety of techniques such as breathwork, bilateral stimulation, progressive muscle relaxation, guided imagery, stillness, movement, mindfulness, and prayer to help you discover more about how you were designed for healing.

Trauma Therapy

As a trauma-informed counselor my goal is to collaborate with trauma victims and survivors to create a safe space for their needs. I go at my client's pace, even if that means sitting still.  I learn from clients about their experiences with trauma and provide psycho-education about trauma in relationship to our bodies. I use a variety of interventions to work with clients who have experienced trauma including Somatic Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy. I am not trained in EMDR or Brainspotting and will refer clients out when I think it will benefit them.

Faith-Based Counseling

Clients like to know that their counselor understands their faith and how it informs their thoughts, choices, and daily life experiences. I am a practicing Christian, and I am also a Jewish person who appreciates my heritage and sees it as deeply connected to my faith. It is natural for me to incorporate aspects of the faith into clinical counseling, and I am well versed on Jewish and Christian culture. Faith-Based counseling is similar to other types of counseling with a shared purpose of helping clients resolve conflict, find peace, and grow toward their healthiest selves. Faith-Based counseling may also include biblical discussion and exploration, prayer, asking hard questions, being mad at God, finding meaning and hope, and challenging beliefs. I am sensitive to the faith background of each client and will respect your personal faith and goals as we work together. With that said, some of my clients want nothing to do with religion and some have left their childhood faith. I am comfortable meeting you where you are.

Common Themes

Do you know, I always see part of me in my clients?  And there always seems to be some overlapping work that needs to be done between clients.  Common themes that often come up in my experience with counseling are healing attachment wounds, recognizing and overcoming limiting beliefs, removing obstacles in the way of client goals, taking personal responsibility, becoming assertive, restoring relationships with God, self and others, and getting to the root of the problem. Sometimes therapy is like piecing a puzzle together or finding that one missing piece. If this sounds familiar, I can help.
